GUEST APARTMENT

The space has been developed for the inhabitant to enjoy a few days of rest and relaxation. The enclave serves as a link between the city and the desert – creating an intimate and natural place, perfect to connect directly with nature and generate an intimate experience between the guest and landscape.

Conceived as a guest apartment or a retreat, where local and traditional architecture blends with the latest functions and needs.

The orientation, environment and adaptability of the space become indisputable protagonists of the project.

The architectural design proposal and the interior layout have been conceived according to the sun’s orientation and prevalence in order to make the most of natural light. The sunrise and sunset coincide in the day and night zones of the home. It is structured in a way that protects the space from the direct incidence of the sun through framed openings and cross-ventilation along the axis of the house to mitigate the passing of hot days and cold nights.

To reinforce this, the help of natural vegetation and traditional architectural louvers has been used, with the idea of transforming the incidence of sunlight into playful shadows almost typical of nature.

On entering the house, the main living space directs the view outward through a floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall frame, allowing the arid desert landscape to be seen.

A cantilever is used to leave the view completely free, provoking contemplation. In addition, it should be noted that the connection with the environment is not only produced by direct access to the exterior, but by the use of materials and natural colours in the finishes and furniture of the interiors by a large extent.

The connection between the interior and exterior of the dwelling is evident in all rooms, where one can be in permanent contact with nature and immerse oneself in an atmosphere of peace and relaxation.

The distribution of the interior space is divided into two: the day zone formed by a living room with a small kitchen; and the night zone, formed by a suite with spa bath. The dining room has a large table developed as a main stage – it becomes a space for work and creativity, thereby reducing the kitchen to its minimum expression – purposed only for sporadic use and enjoyment that purports a retreat space or a short stay. The suite is oriented to the west and has an outdoor space separated from the main area, to ensure privacy and facing the sunset in a privileged natural environment. The bath area is a fusion of functionality and relaxation, since it is equipped with facilities that allow a spa experience combining different wellness techniques and technology.

Locally sourced material are usedthroughout the interiors.

Both areas are separated by a lattice door capable of generating greater spatial richness, thereby enhancing the entry of natural light and marking independence between the different spaces without losing continuity between them and with the environment. Within these areas, the balance between transparency and privacy is evident. This concept of balance is repeated throughout the space and is also sought through the materials used, such as the freshness of thestone and iron and the warmth of the wood.

The white walls and dark concrete floors act as a neutral canvas on which the owner will apply color through selection of furniture, local artwork, and spiritual paraphernalia.

The swimming pool serves as a highlight for this project by creating a mirror effect that simultaneously frames the natural environment in the purest way. In order to reinforce the concept of contemplation and relaxation, the swimming pool has been provided with an extended first step in the form of a bed, with a platform built at the end of it, far from all the architecture in order to offer first-row and almost 360º views of the entire outdoor environment.
